Frequently Asked Questions

What instruments do you teach?

You can sign up for lessons in Guitar: electric and acoustic, six and seven string, lead, rhythm. Bass: four and five string. Dave also offers Audio Recording Lessons.

How often are lessons?

Individual lessons are 30 minutes weekly. Hour-long lessons and/or multiple lessons throughout the week can be scheduled if preferred.

When can I schedule a lesson?

Openings and slots vary based on availability. Contact Dave right away to discuss your scheduling options and secure your slot.

What can I expect to learn in the lessons?

What do you WANT to learn? The sky’s the limit! Unlike formal academies or corporate music schools, Dave’s lessons are personal, customizable, and focused on your interests. Once you learn the basics, the lessons will move in whatever direction you decide. You can expect to learn whatever interests you, exploring as a team and developing your strengths. That means developing your style while learning your favorite songs or artists, your favorite style of music, or concepts you’ve always dreamed of learning.

Do I have to purchase materials?

Not necessarily. Since the lessons are customizable, no specific books or materials are required. Younger students are usually started in a basic book, and students with specific goals are encouraged to have a book if applicable. Otherwise a notebook is required for writing down your weekly lesson as we make a lesson book catered specifically for your goals.

Of course, you will have to have your own instrument, as these are NOT provided.
Dave’s music is available online for purchase at Amazon, Apple, Spotify, and also during the lessons, however!

What is the payment schedule?

Lessons are paid monthly in advance at the beginning of the month.

What is the cancellation policy?

Students are required to notify at least 24-hours in advance if cancelling the lesson, otherwise they are still charged. Rescheduling throughout the week is also an option, and when students are responsible and notify of a cancellation soon, it is easier to rearrange for make-up lessons.

What do audio recording lessons consist of?

We cover digital recording concepts and techniques. This includes MIDI recording and editing, using sound plug-ins, and audio editing. We also discuss microphone placement, live instrument and vocal recording, as well as real-life recording studio scenarios. Recording concepts can be applied no matter what platform you work on.

Can I schedule lessons for every-other-week?

Sadly, no. Lessons alternating every other week are not efficient for the student or the teacher. Regular, weekly lessons are the best way to progress.

Can I schedule a one-time or short-term series of lessons?

Yes. Players often contact Dave to go over specific questions or needs. This can be for things like prepping for an audition, tackling a specific topic, overcoming a writing/arranging/songwriting or performance hurdle, or just to learn something unique. Scheduling a one-time lesson, or short-term series of lessons is an option when regular students are properly cancelling and rescheduling their weekly lessons. Please contact Dave to work something out.

Will you teach students in pairs or groups?

Lessons are one-on-one generally. Oftentimes students will schedule back-to-back lessons of an hour and learn together, but lessons are still per student, per half-hour. I do offer guitar workshops for groups at venues, churches, and other organizations. Contact Dave to arrange a workshop at your location.

Do you do performance consulting or artist consulting?

Yes. Between Dave’s Arts Entrepreneurship Certificate and years of experience in the music business, Dave is proud to offer Music Business-related consultations. Please contact Dave if you are looking for any services regarding performance, live or recording consultations, artist management, marketing, or music business-related questions. Contact Dave about specific needs and rates.
